'Tis the season for strappy sandals and peep toe pumps to meet the newest trends in nail colors on pretty, pedicured feet. This week, we've rounded up polish trends worth trying and gorgeous shoes to show them off.
New Neutrals
Experts from Harper's Bazaar to Elle and beyond have declared neutral en vogue for Spring/Summer 2012. Neutrals in favor include tan shades, such as Dior's Safari Beige ($23 at Sephora) and hues that skew grey, like Zoya's Carey ($8 at Zoya.com). Nude shoes pair perfectly with spring's most colorful frocks, making a stunning pair of nude heels a must. We like Valentino's Rockstud Platform Pump, $895 at NeimanMarcus.com. Those of us who wish to still pay rent after updating our wardrobes can opt for the Nude Diba Tenith Pump from DSW.com for $39.95.
Color Blocked
Color blocking has been hot for a few seasons now and the trend continues with spring and summer collections boasting color blocked dresses, tops, shoes and more. Have some fun with your nails by executing a chic color block mani/pedi at home. Start by picking two polish colors that complement each other. Next, grab a roll of Scotch tape. Apply your favorite basecoat and then paint your nails with one of the two colors you've selected, preferably the lightest color of the two. Once the first coat of color is completely dry, apply a small piece of tape to each nail where you want the color blocking to appear. Be sure to use the flat, smooth edge of the tape or your lines will be jagged. Paint the exposed portion of your nail with your second color of choice. Allow paint to dry, remove tape and voila, your nails are color blocked. Pair your chic new polish with these stunning B Brian Atwood Campisa Suede Pumps, $400 at ShopBop.com.
Spring Sorbet
Suddenly it seems brights have given way to their faded counterparts, think mint green rather than kelly or soft apricot versus hot pink. Essie embraces the trend with their spot-on Summer 2012 lacquer collection featuring hues like Bikini so Teeny, a sparkling cornflower blue, and Cascade Cool, a dusty pink. Pair these pretty hues with their well-heeled counterparts, a collection of sorbet-colored slides from the house of Gucci. Sold for $249.95 at dsw.com these pastel heels are available in Grass Green, Sky Blue, Lavender, Blush Pink and Pale Yellow.
Retro Inspired
From Mad Men to Marilyn, we're clearly infatuated with the glamour girls of the past. Fashion has taken note delivering an onslaught of retro-inspired looks in clothing, makeup, shoes and the like. Embrace old Hollywood Glamour, circa the 1930s, with a modern take on the half moon mani. Step one: Pick up The Haylie Sandal from Betsey Johnson, flirty, floral throwback heels that sell for $109.95 at DSW. Next, apply one coat of Dior Vernis Nail Lacquer in Safari Beige. Let nails dry and then use 10 paper reinforcement stickers applied to the natural moons of your nails to create your color pattern. Finally, apply your second color, Chanel Nail Colour in May ($26 at Chanel.com) to the top half of each nail. Let the polish dry, remove stickers, add a final coat of clear polish and you've nailed the season's newest looks.
